Broken Glass on Palm Sunday

"the Führer has decided that… demonstrations should not be prepared or organised by the party, but insofar as they erupt spontaneously, they are not to be hampered." - Joseph Goebbels, 1938 Germany

"To all modern Sons of Liberty: THIS is your time. Break their windows. Break them NOW." - Mike Vanderboegh - 2010, United States

Funny how a party which aligns itself with "freedom" and "democracy" and "liberty" embraces a fringe group which insists on copy-catting tactics used by a dictatorial regime to rage against its own citizens and neighbors. To arrest them for doing nothing but being Jewish or gay or "non-Aryan." To eventually murder upwards of six million innocent souls.

How do we allow this in America?

How do we abide violence in the name of politics?

Some might say that the Teabaggers aren't killing people, or arresting people, they are just breaking a few windows. Tossing bricks. Doing it when there aren't people around. It's just glass. It's just property damage. Hell, they're creating work for the glass repair business!

Right. Because all of that excuses the fact that these people are violent.

These are the same people who are hurling racial epithets and spitting on Congressmen. These are the same people who want to "take back" America. In the name of a bill which brings health care to 23 million uninsured Americans. In the name of a bill that largely emulates the Massachusetts health care reforms, which came under the guidance of Mitt Romney, a Republican governor. In the name of a bill which currently has no public option. Which is revenue neutral. Which is a far cry from where we need to be as a civilized, modern, industrialized nation.

What's to take back?

What are they afraid of?

I don't write about politics much on my blog; I identify (up yonder, check the list), as a Democrat, but more than that, I identify as a progressive. It's not a bad word. Progress is a great thing. But progress means change, and change is something a lot of Americans are afraid of.
